Ways to take better care of your vagina

Being a woman, vaginal health is important to your overall health. Vaginal problems might have an impact on your fertility and sex desire. Continuous vaginal health conditions might have a negative impact on your self-esteem. As a result, it is essential to maintain your vaginal health.

First of all, you should know about your vagina because people usually get it mixed up with vulva. Vagina is down there but it is not the visible one.

Basically keeping the vulva clean is easy. All you need to do is, use warm water to wash it, no soaps or cleanser is required. But if you want to use, you can use the plain, unperfumed ones.

A great thing about the vagina is, it is a naturally self-cleaning organ by making mucus, and you don’t need to clean it. Now, here is how to keep your vagina healthy:

Be sexually responsible

Always use protection (such as condoms) or maintain a mutually monogamous relationship with someone who does not have any sexually transmitted diseases. Be sure to wash and clean bed sheets and any other sex aids you may use for sexual pleasure. 

Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination

If you’re screened to not have any HPV infection currently, ask your doctor if you’re eligible to be vaccinated against HPV for cervical cancer prevention. 

Perform pelvic exercises

Pelvic exercises, also known as Kegel exercises, can help you strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, preventing other conditions such as not being able to hold your pee, and many more!

Be mindful of the medications you take

Always discuss with your doctor about the side effects of any medications prescribed to you. 

Limit alcohol intake and avoid smoking

Long term alcohol usage can affect your sexual function. Nicotine, on the other hand, may inhibit sexual arousal. 

So, the vagina is home to a complex community of bacteria, and maintaining a healthy balance of bacteria is important for overall vaginal health. Remember to have regular gynecological check-ups, maintain good vaginal hygiene and make lifestyle choices that support overall health to maintain a healthy vagina.
