What to do if the child is picky eater?

Children’s partial eclipse means that children will only eat one or several foods they like when eating.

  1. Respect their appetite and be a role model

If  your child is not hungry, do not force a meal or snack. Likewise, don’t bribe or force your child to eat certain foods or clean his or her plate.

2. Be creative

The parents may wish to transform the tangible into the invisible like chopping or food into pieces so that the child can eat the food unconsciously. 

3. Recruit your child’s help

At the grocery store, ask you child to help you select fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods. Buy anything that your child wants to eat. At home, encourage your child to help you rinse veggies, stir batter or set the table.

4. Do not offer snacks

Generally speaking, snacks are to make up for the shortage of meals, and snacks are products to satisfy children’s tastes. Therefore, try not to let children eat too much during non-dinner time.

Reasons for children’s picky eating

1.         They cannot stop eating snacks

A variety of snacks will cause the secretion of gastrointestinal tract digestive fluids. The lack of necessary rest in the gastrointestinal tract may eventually cause weakened digestion and decreased appetite.

2.         Parents do n’t pay attention, they can not  discipline home

Parents neglect the cultivation of their children ’s normal eating habits, or over-accommodation and indulgence of their children, which encourages the child ’s bad habits of picky eating.

3.         Poor do-it-yourself skills, insist on feeding unscientific

When the child is about 1 year old, the parent should cultivate his own habit of eating, but some children are four or five years old, and adults still insist on feeding, which may affect their interest in eating.

4.         Eating while watching TV

The wonderful picture on the TV distracts the child’s appetite. When the main meal is not full, the child tends to supplement it with snacks.

5.         Irregular eating time

Serve meals and snacks at about the same times every day. If you child chooses not to eat a meal, a regular snack time will offer an opportunity to eat nutritious food.

6. Bad atmosphere at the dining table

Parents have discordant relationships, often arguing at the table, children will be nervous when eating, resulting in lack of appetite.

The hazards of picky eating in children

Nutritional imbalance

Balance nutrition is important to support the baby’s growth and development. Picky eater can lead to deficiencies, such as iron, calcium, zinc, and vitamin deficiencies, which can lead to other illnesses and complications later in life.

Reduce the brain development

The intelligence development index of normal babies is 14 points higher than that of picky eater babies, and they are prone to inattention.

Reduce the immune resistance of the children

They are  more likely to suffer from anemia, rickets and other nutritional deficiency related diseases.
