Why does my newborn have so many boogers?
Cleaning boogers has been a problem for parents, especially new parents & their newborn baby. Because the newborn’s respiratory system is still developing, many newborns have more boogers. But rest easy dear parents, newborns breathing system generally is like so.
Even some babies who are older than 2 months old still have a lot of boogers – and again, don’t worry, the booger-overload situation will subside over time.
During this period, parents should be aware of their babies developing breathing difficulties due to the boogers congesting the baby’s airway, so remember to fish out the boogers in time.
How to clean up a newborn baby’s boogers?
- Coconut oil
Boogers too hard? Dampen a cotton swab with ample coconut oil and apply to the lining of the baby’s nose to lubricate it thus softening the boogers & preventing it from sticking to nose hair as much as possible (less pain for baby).
2.Warm towel
Place a warm towel on the baby’s nose. The warmth from the towel can soften the baby’s boogers. Repeat the warm compress several times to make booger cleaning easier.
3.Be extra careful
Do not pick your baby’s nose with your hands. USe a thin cotton swab to gently pick out the boogers. Be careful to not extend the cotton swab too far as it will cause discomfort for your baby. You can also use a nasal aspirator to suck out your baby’s smaller boogers.
Reasons why newborns have more boogers
There are many reasons for newborns to have a lot of boogers. For example, the climate temperature is an important factor for newborns to have a lot more boogers.
Neonatal booger may also be caused by a cold. Infection of the respiratory system leads to increased nasal mucus. The immature baby’s immune system and imbalanced nutrition can cause vitamin deficiencies, which can lead to children suffering from colds. During this time, parents should pay attention to observe if there are other cold symptoms. If there are other symptoms available, get medical intervention as soon as possible.
How to prevent neonatal booger
- Try to make the baby’s nutrition balanced, increase or reduce the baby’s clothing moderately to prevent the baby from catching a cold.
- Parents should not pick their children’s boogers directly with their fingers. Keep the baby’s environment humid to prevent the child from being too dry and also preventing damage to the child’s nasal mucosa.
- Newborns often need to be cautious of respiratory disease, seek timely medical treatment, and actively treat them.
