Moist lip hacks
Chapped lips, also known as lip dryness or lip dermatitis, is a common condition characterized by dry, cracked, and sore lips. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including dry air, cold weather, sun exposure, wind, dehydration, and certain medical conditions.
Some of the common causes of chapped lips include :
Dry air – Indoor heating and air conditioning can dry out the air, which can lead to dry, chapped lips.
Cold weather – Cold temperatures and wind can strip the lips of moisture, leading to chapping.
Sun exposure – Sunburned lips can dry out and become chapped.
Dehydration – Not drinking enough water can lead to dryness in the lips.
Lip-licking – Constant licking of the lips can dry them out and cause chapping.
Certain medical conditions – Some medical conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, and diabetes, can make the lips more prone to chapping.
Certain medications – Some medications can cause dryness in the lips, such as blood pressure medications, antidepressants, and acne medications.
Allergic reactions – Allergic reactions to lip products such as lip balm, lipstick, and lip gloss can also cause chapped lips.
Smoking – Smoking can also cause dryness and chapping in the lips.

To help prevent chapped lips, it’s important to keep the lips moisturized and protected from the elements. Here are a few tips :
- Use a lip balm or lip moisturizer with SPF to protect your lips from the sun
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Apply lip balm or lip moisturizer frequently, especially in dry or cold weather.
- Avoid licking your lips, as saliva can dry out the lips further.
- Avoid using lip products that contain irritants, such as fragrances or flavors.
If you already have chapped lips, try to avoid picking or peeling the skin, as this can make the problem worse. Also, use lip balm or lip moisturizer to soothe and hydrate the lips. If your chapped lips are severe or accompanied by symptoms such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, or difficulty breathing, it’s important to seek medical attention.
