Formula feeding the correct way!

Formula feeding is a type of artificial feeding.  In artificial feeding, milk is the most commonly used. Formula milk powder, also known as mother milk powder, is a milk product formulated on the basis of ordinary milk powder to meet the nutritional needs of infants.

Formula milk also contains additional vitamin D to promote calcium absorption and prevent infant rickets, the right amount of iron can prevent iron deficiency anemia in infants; DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid),  AA (arachidonic acid) and  lactose to reduce the burden on the baby’s kidneys; in addition, trace elements, vitamins, certain amino acids or other ingredients are added to make it closer to breast milk. So you don’t need to worry whether you baby is getting enough nutrients.

Infant formula can be divided into the following three categories:

  1. Infant formula based on milk: suitable for infants generally.

2.  Infant formula milk with special formula: It can be further divided into:

a. Lactose-free infant formula: suitable for infants who cannot tolerate lactose. It can be divided into lactose-free infant formula based on milk and lactose-free infant formula based on soybeans.

b. Partially hydrolyzed milk powder: suitable for infants with mild diarrhea or allergies.

c. Completely hydrolyzed milk powder: suitable for infants with severe diarrhea, allergies or short bowel syndrome.

d. Elemental formula: suitable for infants with the most severe chronic diarrhea, allergies or short bowel syndrome.

3. Milk Formula for Preterm babies: The main ingredients (such as lactose changed to glucose polymer, and medium-chain fatty acid oil to replace part of long-chain fatty acid oil) have been revised to be suitable for premature infants.

What to do if the formula baby does not eat

  1. Adding a little bit of sugar to entice the baby to accept the new milk powder can certainly work, but it is really not desirable. Because too much sugar is not conducive to teeth and body development.
  2. Every time a new food is added, it is a challenge for the baby’s psychology. They have to accept what they don’t understand but others want him to eat.
  3. Parents should pay attention to creating a pleasant and harmonious atmosphere, and babies don’t want to eat and they can’t be forced, this will only make them more refusal.

The correct method of feeding formula

Method 1: Supplementary feeding

Every time mommy feeds her baby, she will feed her baby’s breast milk until the baby is full, and then feed the formula to supplement the baby’s lack of milk.

Method 2: Feeding on behalf of

Alternating breastfeeding with formula milk powder can also be adopted, which means that this time the breast milk is completely fed to the baby, and the next time the formula milk powder is used instead.

Method 3: Use infant formula suitable for babies

Formula milk powder with moderate protein content and easy digestion and absorption; the rapid development of intelligence of babies from 6 months to 3 years old, it is best to choose formula milk powder containing DHA and AA ingredients.

Method 4: Master the milk intake of babies of different months

The daily milk intake of the baby is approximately equal to 1/5 of the body weight in the first few weeks, approximately 1/6 of the body weight at 2-4 months old, approximately 1/7 of the body weight at 6 months old, 7-12 At 1 month old, it is about 1/8 of the body weight.

Method 5: Feeding rules are basically the same as breastfeeding

It should be like breastfeeding, and gradually establish regular and quantitative feeding rules. Generally speaking, babies under the full moon are fed 7-8 times a day, and 5-7 times a day after 2 months. The time for each baby to suck is 15-20 minutes, which is basically the same as breastfeeding.
