Fertility Assessment
Fertility assessments are the best way to know your fertility condition and help you find the best options for treatment, if needed. A standard fertility assessment includes physical examinations and medical and sexual histories of both partners. Men undergo a semen analysis that evaluates sperm count, sperm movement and structure.
What is a Fertility Assessment?
A fertility assessment helps to investigate the reason behind your difficulty in conceiving. Through the process of your fertility assessment, you will undergo a series of tests to evaluate your reproductive health . This includes:
- Medical History Review
- Semen Analysis. The male partner’s semen will be tested for:
- sperm count (how many sperms are there in your semen)
- how quickly your sperms move
- the size, shape, and quality of your sperms
- the amount of seminal fluid
- Abdominal Scan & Pelvic Ultrasound Scan
- Blood tests
Once the assessment is completed, our fertility specialist will discuss with you the available treatment options that can help you to conceive.
When is the best time to go for a Fertility Assessment?
It is recommended for people who have been trying to conceive naturally for more than 12 months if they are under 38 or have been trying to conceive for longer than 6 months if they are over 38. It is also recommended for anyone who has already had a miscarriage, diagnosis of any fertility issues such as PCOS, or has been advised by their doctors to do further investigations.

Where should you go for a Fertility Assessment?
Fertility assessments can be done at many clinics. One good example is the Alpha IVF & Women’s Specialists Centre where you can get yourself checked. As patients, you will have consultations with the doctor to discuss about your medical history and expectations that you have. During this time, it is best for you to take the opportunity to ask any related questions to fully benefit from this visit.
Based on the assessment reports, the doctor will then discuss with you the treatment options appropriate for you, weighing the pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages, benefits and risks and success rates for each option. The consultation will typically last between 20 to 40 minutes or longer for more complex cases.
How is infertility treated?
Treatment for infertility can include a combination of lifestyle changes, medicine, hormone therapy, and surgical procedures. However, two of the most common fertility treatments are intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF).
